About
I am the founding member of Sophos Law Firm, PLLC, a Seattle-based technology and startup law firm formed in 2007. Sophos provides legal and business counseling to entrepreneurs, startups, and emerging growth companies, in technology and cleantech. Prior to founding Sophos, I served as the General Counsel for an investment management firm where I advised upper management on all legal matters and strategic decisions affecting business operations, including complex commercial transactions, corporate governance, securities regulation, privacy, and employment issues. In addition, I maintained the firm’s intellectual property portfolio and prosecuted trademark and copyright claims.
I have also worked as a product manager for a Bellevue software startup, back in the day when internet startups were referred to as “software as a service.” I have also worked for a defense contractor in Washington, D.C. (yes, I had a clearance) and one of the Big 4 consulting firms. Needless to say, I believe in being well-rounded.
I began my legal career in the public sector in 1999 as a trial attorney with the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG Corps). During my tenure with the JAG Corps, I successfully prosecuted over 150 cases, including 12 jury trials, resulting in a number of medals and commendations. In addition to a law degree from the University of Richmond, I have a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from Purdue University and a Master’s of Business Administration from George Washington University were I focused on finance. I live and work in North Seattle and in my spare time I enjoy working out, playing ice hockey, and reading anything modern European history.
